Cure to a non-existant disease

10 Sep

I think today I’m just in a bad mood, I’m sure its perfectly normal male PMS. Bad mood started yesterday afternoon when I noticed the below advert in the newspaper.

Autism Solution (WTF)

Autism Solution (WTF)

There’s a few obvious things wrong with this advert which to be frank I don’t feel like getting into else this will turn into a pointless rant about how you can’t “recover” from Autism or be “cured.” – For those that don’t know here’s a short definition of Autism:

Source (Define:autism – Google.co.uk)

Autism is a disorder of brain function that appears early in life, generally before the age of three. Children with autism have problems with social interaction, communication, imagination and behavior. Autistic traits persist into adulthood, but vary in severity. …

Therefore, how can you be cured or recover from a disorder, a disorder where certain sections of your brain function differently. Sure you can learn to live with it and adapt but there is no cure, it is part of who you are….accept it and carry on, be proud.

There’s a valid reason why this upsets me so much. I have Aspergers syndrome, a mild form of Autism and it offends me when the media feel it OK to suggest this disorder is a form of disease…..

I personally don’t think it is OK that the common forms of media can have such subtle effect on peoples perception. This is one of those things that can’t be changed. Does anyone else feel like life in this country is slowly going down hill? I don’t think it is just due to the government or any official bodies. I believe It is also down to peoples willingness to accept their lot, even when it is shrinking by the day. When women wanted the right to vote, did they just say “Oh, we’re not allowed…it’s just the way it is, nothing we can do.”? No, off course they didn’t.

I have sometimes wondered if anarchy can be a good thing, dissolution of government and letting people work back up. I know that the government keep people safe, but they are also under control and at the mercy of those people. We could do with distributing some of the chains of command. Maybe we need a little bit more of a laissez faire attitude (Correct me if that’s spelt wrong) becasue if people don’t, can’t, stand up for their rights and what they believe in then surely there is no point in carrying on. Why live life as a sheep working till you die and having to constantly accept the misgivings forced upon you.

Maybe this country has a disease….

I agree with you completely, and I’m quite outraged at that ridiculous advert. It is obviously some puffed up idiot who’s making money out of desperate parents who want to believe their child can be “cured”.
